Murder at High Mass
On 26 April 1478 the Pazzi family's men attacked Lorenzo and Giuliano de' Medici at Mass in Florence Cathedral. Giuliano was killed; Lorenzo, wounded, escaped to the sacristy. More than eighty plotters were executed, some hanged from the windows of the Palazzo della Signoria.
Ghirlandaio's two best pupils
In 1489 Lorenzo de' Medici asked the painter Ghirlandaio for his two best pupils. Ghirlandaio sent Francesco Granacci and the teenage Michelangelo, who spent the next three years in the Medici circle, until Lorenzo's death in 1492.
