The last Bonaparte heir, killed by Zulus
Napoleon III's only son, the Prince Imperial, trained as a British Army officer in exile and talked his way into the Anglo-Zulu War. On 1 June 1879, out on patrol, he was ambushed and killed by Zulu warriors with assegais, aged 23.
