Geoffrey Plantagenet, Count of Anjou

A dynasty named after a shrub

Geoffrey, Count of Anjou, was nicknamed Plante Genest in the 12th century, possibly after the yellow broom, genista in medieval Latin. His descendants ruled England from 1154, but only took Plantagenet as a family name in the 15th century.
