Killed by a splinter at a tournament

In June 1559 Henry II of France jousted at a tournament held to celebrate a peace treaty. Gabriel de Montgomery, captain of his Scottish Guard, wounded him, and he died ten days later; his surgeon Ambroise Paré could not save him.
