Henry VIII married six times. English schoolchildren learn the order as divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived, though strictly his first and fourth marriages were annulled.

Groom of the Stool

The Groom of the Stool attended Henry VIII on the close stool and became one of the most trusted men at court. The office survived, in name and other duties, until 1901.
