The tsar who killed his heir
In November 1581 Ivan the Terrible struck his son and heir, Ivan Ivanovich, on the head with his pointed staff during a quarrel, and the tsarevich died. The throne passed to Ivan's younger son Feodor, whose death ended the dynasty.
