The dancer who cost a king his throne

Ludwig I of Bavaria made his mistress Lola Montez, an Irish dancer who passed herself off as Spanish, Countess of Landsfeld. When the 1848 revolutions broke out she had to flee Bavaria, and Ludwig abdicated the same year.
