In 1314 Philip IV accused two of his daughters-in-law, Margaret and Blanche of Burgundy, of adultery with two knights. The knights were tortured and executed, and the princesses were shaved and imprisoned.
Philip IV had the Templar grand master Jacques de Molay burned in Paris in March 1314. An eyewitness said Molay told the crowd God would avenge them. Pope Clement V and Philip both died within the year, and Philip's three sons all died by 1328.
